Privilege

Yesterday you opened a little window
in the prison of my privilege.
I didn’t know I was afraid
until you opened that gate
and I could see
the diamond out there
waiting for me,
shining its thousandfold light
on the darkness,
the wildness,
the otherness,
setting it free
in you, in me.

No more reason to hide or flee,
no more reason to close off my heart,
my eyes, my voice,
cause by expressing yours
and welcoming mine
you opened that window
and gave me the key.
